Manuscripts can be submitted until the expiry of the deadline. Submissions must be previously unpublished and may not be under consideration elsewhere.

By submitting your manuscripts to the special issue, you are acknowledging that you accept the rules established for publication of manuscripts, including agreement to pay the Article Processing Charges for the manuscripts. Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through the online manuscript submission system at http://www.sciencepublishinggroup.com/login. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal and will be listed together on the special issue website.

Water is the most important and essential component to life. However, in an unfortunate way, water quality of water resources is deteriorating continuously due to so many factors: geometrical growth of population, industrialization, civilization, domestic, and agricultural activities, and other geological and environmental changes. Therefore, water pollution has become a serious issue in the present scenario, affecting all living creatures, household, recreation, fishing, transportation, and other commercial activities. The government authorities, scientists, and academicians are worried and serious on this issue. Thousands of organic, inorganic, and biological pollutants have been reported as water contaminants. Some of them have serious side effects and toxicities with a few being lethal and carcinogenic. These pollutants are very dangerous for all kind of us, aquatic conditions, and the ecosystem of the earth as a whole.

Sustainability, industrial ecology, eco-efficiency, and green chemistry are guiding the development of the next generation of materials, products, and processes. Biodegradable plastics and bio-based polymer products based on annually renewable agricultural and biomass feedstock can form the basis for a portfolio of sustainable, eco-efficient products that can compete and capture markets currently dominated by products based exclusively on petroleum feedstock.

In recent decades, various environmental challenges have been mitigated due to a boom in nanotechnologies and nanomaterials development. Nanomaterials have been widely used in environmental applications and have shown promising performance in pollutant removal or toxicity mitigation.

We invite researchers to contribute original research articles and review articles in the recent development for alternative techniques, involving processes such as adsorption, oxidative, electrochemical, photocatalytic, and membrane processes for water and wastewater treatment. The articles related to the recent advances of eco-efficient products are welcome.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

1. Sensing and Monitoring: Process monitoring/controlling system for the treatment of wastewater;
2. Nanomaterials for high performance to disinfection and decontamination of water and wastewater;
3. Nanoadsorbents: development and applications for contaminant removal from aqueous solutions;
4. Membrane Nanotechnology: nanostructured membranes for water purification;
5. Polymer-supported nanocomposites for environmental application;
6. Magnetic nanoparticles: environmental applications;
7. Electrochemical oxidation to waste-water treatment;
8. The use of zero-valent iron (ZVI) for groundwater remediation and wastewater treatment
