Looking into the future of emerging communication technologies, we recognize the need to consider the concept of responsibility within the design, development and use of such new technologies. Responsibility may include the consideration of ethics, sustainability, gender, science education, open access, public engagement, governance and human rights. Considering responsibility issues may lead to inter- and transdisciplinary solutions to be developed. Smart information systems may include technologies such as the Internet of Things and intelligent Automated Systems, 5G technologies, Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks, innovative web and mobile technologies, etc.
