The patent was awarded for the development of charge and casting materials from fine metal-containing concentrates, including organic pollutants and plastic waste for doping and modifying iron-carbon alloys, surface doping of castings (Republic of Belarus patents №№ 11641, 14183). The methods of intensifying redox processes in the system metal-slag or metal-slag-gas, regulation methods of the alloy composition under the influence of weak electric fields at low cost of slag-forming additives (patent of the Republic of Belarus №15409) were demonstrated.
According to Dr. V. Goncharov "breakthrough areas of scientific research aimed at meeting the new needs of the state, society and the individual, as well as covering the existing market niches (a new combination of quality characteristics and / or global price competitiveness) resulting in a new quality of life." Professor, Dr. Sc. (Engineering) Komarov O. S. states that "the most efficient method of reducing oxides from waste catalysts to alloy iron-carbon alloy is a melt with a carbonaceous reductant regarding the thermodynamic and practical points of view."
Dr. Aliaxandr I. Harast in his latest paper shows that "new advanced materials and technologies based on breakthrough scientific developments of Belarusian State Technological University, can effectively extract metals from non-traditional charge (e.g. iron-containing dust, sludge cupola gases, iron-containing sludge, scale, rust, grinding sludge, iron and steel turnings, wastes of facing materials, waste catalysts of chemical and petrochemical industries) when applying a new class of reductants (atomic carbon and hydrogen). Reducing medium is formed in the pyrolysis process of industrial waste polymer (plastics and elastomers) in the melt during the melting process of the bailed polymers and metal-containing materials".
Dr. Alixandr I. Harast provides the compositions and processing methods of bailing charge and foundry materials from metal-containing and polymer waste, including chemical curing materials with organic impurities to alloy and modify iron-carbon alloys. Dr. Alixandr I. Harast also presents the compositions and coating technology of casting molds and cores for surface alloying of castings, methods of cathodic and anodic polarization of the melt in the constant electric field.
Such innovative technologies can be applied at modifying, microalloying with titanium and other additives (Al, Co, Ca) and the impregnation of the alloys with carbon instead of traditional diluting, combining capabilities of high molecular weight polymer compounds to achieve a high reactivity due to the formation of atomic hydrogen and carbon by pyrolysis of polymers and activation of metal components of the additives (Cu, Ti, Al, Co, Pb); at direct (from the oxides) alloying and modifying metallic elements in iron-carbon alloys, direct surface (to 1.5 mm) alloying with metal castings of special coatings on foundry moulds and cores; cast iron is desulphurized with complex additive magnesite, a polymer material. When implementing the technology the polarization slag will perform mainly protective and electric conductive function, and the rate of redox processes is governed by the magnitude and sign of the applied potential.
